Social Media and Business

For those who are still skeptical about social media, well, the vatican has a myspace page. Yes, I wrote that right, and you read it right. Presently, social media is reminiscent to the time when having a website was not mainstream. Today, every mom and pop store has a website, in fact, a business without web presence is doing themselves and their customers a huge disservice.

Its easy to look at social media and say WoW, what a big waste of time that is. Don’t worry, I did the same thing, although for my personal usage. Social Media should be a must for all for profit businesses, and non profit businesses, its so easy a caveman can do it. Consider the polar opposite of huge companies such as Pepsi, Doritos, Sprite paying millions of dollars to market themselves in front of millions of viewers during prime time television. With social media, businesses of all scales can market themselves in front of millions, without the million dollar budget, all it requires is a goal, and time.

Literally anyone can get on the social media playing field. Hire a teen to maintain your social media campaign if you or your employees don’t have the time. While companies may get by while being skeptic towards blogging, social media is a must. Higher a college interim who majors in marketing, communications, etc. There are so many options that for a business to be social media less is almost like saying, "we don’t care about our potential customers, we don’t want to grow anymore, growth is bad."

Try not to look at social media as a waste of time, but instead as a cost effective way to brand and to get your message out in front of a good amount of people that actually care and aren’t just flipping through channels. Its a cost effective way to reach out to your target audience, and when social media works it can be a beautiful thing that both you and your customers will appreciate.

It irks me when I can’t find a sites twitter contact, even more than when the contact info is non existent.
Amazon joined the social media band wagon, but getting live customer service is a no no.
